TEXAS ADVOCATES -- URGENT CALL TO ACTION!!!!
TX Governor Abbott will set the final list of issues to be addressed in the Special Legislative Session by this FRIDAY, AUGUST 27.

There are TWO Animal Welfare bills up for consideration.

SB78 - the THLN (SAFE Outdoors Act) bill that regulates housing, collars and length of tether for outdoor dogs. (This is the bill that the Governor vetoed earlier this Summer)
HB17 - prohibits unattended tethering.

HB17 was introduced by Rep. Jaycee Jetton (R-Sugarland and co-authored by Rep Ed Thompson (R-Pearland) (WAY TO GO HOUSTON AREA ADVOCATES!!)

This bill was written by Texas rescuers who work with Texas dogs every day. This bill protects Texas dogs by prohibiting unattended tethering.

What does 'unattended tethering' mean? It means you can tether your dog, if you are in the care and control of your dog. But, is would prohibit the tethering of dogs without the owner present.

When Gov Abbot vetoed the SAFE Outdoors Act, he said it was too much micromanagement and too hard to enforce. HB17 is EXACTLY what the Governor asked for and EXACTLY what Texas dogs need. SIMPLE. STRAIGHT-FORWARD. EASY TO ENFORCE.

Texans! We cannot protect our Texas dogs if we cannot get this bill to a vote.

Tell them that you support the Legislature taking up animal welfare bills and you want the Governor/Lt Governor and Speaker to put Animal Welfare on the Special Session call list.
We won't lie. This special session is a long shot for both bills. But that's no reason to sit out this session. The louder and stronger our voice, the better our chance for this session and all the sessions that follow.
