Amazing super close encounter with one special manta at Lady Elliot Island that played with me. This beautiful creature repeatedly swam around me, often swimming directly toward me, diving straight under or swerving just to the side of my body at the absolute the last moment, and passing within inches. Looked eyeball to eyeball at times. Filmed Aug 22nd 2021, around 8.45-9am with handheld GoPro. Unfortunately, I had to stop filming to return to shore for safety check-in with LEI staff but the manta followed me so took a bit more footage as shown in GH010269_LEI_J9_swim_w_manta_22082021. Both video clips are unedited and shown in real time. Popped my head up a few times to check my bearings and safety from boats, but otherwise all the action is underwater. Estimated size of manta approx 5 metres across from wing tip to wing tip.
