This was truly one of those magical moments for Jacob and Allison on their wedding day. I honestly did not know what I was in for when I heard about the smoke and sparklers during the first dance from Central Coast Entertainment. I just so happened to time my camera movement perfectly with the sparklers turning on. Everything came together in that moment and I think everyone in the room felt it.
That’s what it’s all about for me! It’s my favorite part of shooting weddings. There is always at least one or two extra special surprising and precious moments from each wedding and they almost never happen when you think they will. I’ve just learned to stay on my toes and have my camera ready!
A little tip for any wedding film makers out there, if you are looking to add another lens to your wedding kit and don’t already have a super wide lens you should give it a try. I don’t use mine at every wedding, so it’s definitely not a must have, but for a scene like this there was really no other way to really capture it other than on a gimbal with the beautiful wide. I shot this on the BMPCC 4k on the Ronin S with the Laowa 9mm f2.8. This is my favorite wide lens for MFT cameras. It’s so sharp, there is no warping at all, and the price is as unbeatable as a Black Magic camera :)
