Project 1 - Digital Video
Inspired by the origami fish and flower designs colorfully decorating my office space, I knew I wanted to create a sequential story using a water scene. “FIN” is meant to be playful and peaceful in character, showcasing a journey through the storm.
For this project, I took photos of my origami works and then outlined and cropped the images in Photoshop. I also created a couple vector graphics to mimic the look and feel of the paper for the backgrounds. I began working from the middle of the storm to the end of the piece, and then back to the beginning to start the journey. Layer by layer, I uncovered the story through the process. As soon as I understood the controls of the program, and thinking out details such as how to recreate a flash of lightning or movement among flowers (asking myself does this show growth?), the piece ended up mending together. The most challenging part was finding the perfect transitions between scenes. Over the fish scene, I could have added a layer of blue wash (some transparency) but preserving the vibrancy of colors was important, to show the growth after rain.
