_a polylogue of sound through bodies and radios_
_two FM radio transmitters are delayed audio, that is fed back to itself_
_radios are placed in their intersecting zone, bucking each other off based on the movement of bodies_
_this happened to be in the vestibule of the Tang Teaching Museum on a busy day_
If 'sensation' is taken to be that which produces meaning, if we put sense to work, we inevitably overwrite our own role in the making-sensible.
A sight is often taken as the default aesthetic moment and thus is heavily connected to how we conceive of our own making-meaning. I may not see every angle of an object at a particular moment, but i nthe singular view I imagine the real possibility of seeing (thus, knowing) the whole.
Hearing a sound, on the other hand, does not portend to show an eternal present, but rather a relentless presencing. Hearing a sound, the internal resonance, only brings us to the edge of meaning, and thus defies our notion of sense as understanding.
Our ability to technologically manipulate sound and reproduce sound almost effortlessly complicates our relationship to the sonic moment. In a world overrun with the ability to record, to be recorded, and to re-sound a recording, perhaps we too often mistake the sonorous for the visual.
FIELD NOTICE is a composition of sonic objects, withheld; a polylogue through radio waves. Using terrestrial and digital broadcast technology, FIELDN NOTICE welcomes a moment where the material that sounds constantly veils itself. In the resulting cacophony, the piece creates the conditions for the listener to be just that, and really only that -- the listener.
