The relationship between the quote to the films I am using in the video essay are to contrast the cinematic cores at which Marvel films may lack in relation to other films such as Her (2013), Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) as well as Parasite (2019). The films that I will showcase within the video essay will include small scenes that have left an impression on me when I watched them. I wanted to include something that invoked emotion even when it was perhaps a 5 second moment on screen. Ultimately, the flip flop between what is considered an emotional and action packed scene of Marvel films, will be juxtaposed against a film that carries their emotional weight wholeheartedly. Although there will be direct comparisons between the action sequences with small emotional ties from Marvel movies to that of dramatic moments in other films, the relationship aims to highlight how this cinematic universe lacks at its core, a sort of illumination of the soul. While there are similar moments that perhaps evoke some emotion from its audience, the work itself does not centre around the full emotional exploration of the film but rather the action scenes. Overall there is a lack of heart and emotion that are not present in the dramatic core of Marvel films in comparison to others that wish to further push the cinematic experience.
