Ender tests the bridge between sound and movement-making. Improvised gestures of a musician and a dancer create shapes for a graphic score. The artists develop the work separately according to the same guide. Sound, movement, and projected images come together live at the mercy of chance.
The question of who would signal the end of the show led the dancers and cinematographer to consider movements typically associated with actresses in old Hollywood cinema who were tasked with expressing some kind of ending: a death, a departure, a pivotal revelation. How are the roles of victim and villain interchangable? Who gets to— who has to— be the ender?
