footage & story gathered today at a massive public protest in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia.

What may have been over 1 million people gathered in a ‘Cabildo,’ a public demonstration meant to function like a giant town hall meeting in which people outwardly defy the government with specific action items and statements that directly override or refuse executive authority. This event is the result of building unrest that has mounted as forest fires have now burned 5.3 million hectares of the country. The populace particularly protests President Evo Morales’ ardent refusal to declare a national disaster and denial of international aid- despite widespread pleas.

The burned lands exist as a vector of bribery for votes as Evo Morales approaches his illegitimate 4th run for President. The decimated land also serves to fill a trade deal with China for beef and soy. Further backstory is available and a proven line of corruption is clear. To give an eye into the crisis: over 50,000 people have migrated into Santa Cruz country, registered to vote, and set land ablaze in exchange for land ownership benefits. Full detail of the story and sources of information are available upon request.

The link below is a short compilation of selects from our coverage today. Footage of fires and backstory items also available.
