In the ancient rhetoric the descriptive process known as ekphrasis was a competition between different languages as well as between communication experts. The speaker asked to the listener to envision in their minds an imaginary action or an artwork while listening to his speech affirming, by doing so, the power of the words. Sometimes the listeners were challenged to close and open their eyes to compare the power of the verbal description to that of the figurative form. Raimondo Guarino

EKPHRASIS was born from a dialogue with ten young dancers (from 23 to 28 years old) to whom I “delivered” the descriptions of some posture – an archive of figures from my solo dance ENERGHEIA, the heart of the ELP project. From the embodiment of these postures through the listening of descriptions - a scheme that removes the "choreographer body" as a template to be replicated - a new individual and collective choreographic structure was born, a choreography that develops between consonances and dissonances, focusing on the sense of movement. The creative process of EKPHRASIS highlights the effect of the description of the choreography on the embodiment given by the listener.

EKPHRASIS is part of the ELP project that investigates the relationship between descriptive words and movement through the "transmission" of posture archives.
