"Edge of the Dark (Crush COVID)" is the solo performance piece that was filmed at my first, self-organized intensive program: MUVMENT'21.

The MUVMENT Project was designed to be a unique dance intensive that pushes students to explore new movements, find their unique style, and hone in on their artistry. The MUVMENT Project also puts an emphasis on fundraising and benefiting a good cause, reminding young dancers that life is bigger than just dance, and we are all human - at the end of the day.

The MUVMENT'21 intensive was a 3-day summer intensive held in July 2021, and had a total of 21 students (a.k.a. "MUVrs"). The program included: movement exploration, improvisation, and choreography in contemporary fusion. MUVrs also filmed a solo performance piece on the final day.

On Day 1 of the intensive, MUVrs were asked to describe something that they want to personally overcome, and then put it into one word. On the last day, they were challenged to film a solo performance piece, where “crush COVID” was the overall concept. They were then surprised to find their word written on their masks… Their "crush word" was the underlying message of the piece -- and they were directed to envision that this performance piece was actually a message to themselves.

I am beyond proud to present the MUVMENT’21 solo piece: Edge of the Dark (crush COVID).

This video presents my solo piece: "crush DOUBT", along with my favorite highlights from each MUVrs' solos. Their "crush words" included: "begin", "enough (being)", "judgment (of self)", "walls", "insecurity", "anxiety", "limits", "expectations", and "receive".
