Today's Scripture: Luke 19: 41-44
“When he (Jesus) approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it.”

For the thousands of Jews coming to Jerusalem that Passover the sight of the holy city would have been a welcome site. Most pilgrims had traveled days to get there and the city would have been bustling with excitement. But Jesus felt something very different. Jesus felt sorry. Jesus felt the pain of seeing people he loved who lost the opportunity to grasp the salvation they wanted. They wanted what he could provide, but they rejected the package God delivered it in.

This short story teaches us something profound about the Father. God will not force His way into any of our hearts. Jesus comes to us as a gift that is must be received. And if we reject God’s presence we suffer immensely.

How did Jesus feel about the people in Jerusalem?
What/who would have brought them peace?
How did their rejection affect their destiny?
What would bring you peace?

Let's Pray
Jesus Christ our LORD we desperately need your peace. We confess that often we have turned away from you and lives of faith. We thought that our selfish action would bring us the peace we want, yet again we are reminded that in you alone is there life and peace now and forever. Give us the courage to follow you in a world bent on rebellion. Amen
