Today's Scripture: Read Matthew 26:17-30
This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
It always strikes me that Jesus and his betrayer shared their last meals together. According to Matthew’s gospel, Jesus knew exactly what was happening. He pointed out Judas’s treachery to the others and yet continued with the meal.
There are two important lessons here. First, we know from experience that our sin seperates us from God, but this story makes it clear that this separation is our choice. Jesus doesn’t kick Judas out of the upper room once it is confirmed that he will “betray him.” Instead Jesus keeps on with the meal and according to my reading of this story, Jesus then gives his body and his blood for Judas. If that isn’t grace - undeserved favor, I don’t know what is. Jesus’s love is so rich, even Judas is offered it.
Secondly, this story makes is abundantly clear that nothing will stop God’s action, not even our sin. Jesus’s plan for the forgiveness of sins is unstoppable. For the moments when I mess up, run out of energy or stop “feeling it” – I am so thankful for the persevering love of God.

Let's Pray
Jesus save us from rejecting the life you give and help us to receive the gift of grace you offer. Amen
