Music created with the use of a network of random number generators. In real time with participation of the rest of the Broken Composers.

The experiment was based on the field recordings — sound landscapes of Germany, medieval and modern.

The work of the random network is similar to a conveyor belt or an orchestra, where each participant is only responsible for a very small action. The first one cuts the incoming sound stream to pieces of random length, from milliseconds to a minute. Second one builds those pieces into rhythmic sequences. The third grabs the sequence and tries to turn it into a melody. And so on and so forth.

Thus, 300 random generators work simultaneously creating 5 parallel tracks of sound. And most of the time they generate a boring insipid noise. But sometimes the network seems to catch some kind of inspiration and creates soundscapes of amazing beauty and complexity.

The role of the musicians is to try to capture this moment and develop it.
