Dreaming follows two men deeply affected by Winsor McCay’s comic strip Little Nemo in Slumberland. Examine the complicated legacy of American animation, as the son of Winsor McCay meets a Black portrait artist who redraws racist caricatures into human beings. Torry Bend’s previous work, The Paper Hat Game, received the UNIMA citation of excellence, the highest honor in North American puppetry, was a New York Times Critic’s pick and was nominated for a Drama Desk Award. Howard L. Craft is a lauded poet, playwright, and arts educator who created the first African-American superhero radio serial, The Jade City Pharaoh.
