Artist Statement
Have you ever enjoyed the classic Dragon Quest series and fell in love instantly? So have I! Which is why I created a 2D and 3D animation themed around the Japanese series in commemoration of the enjoyment I get out of playing these games. I wanted to utilize both 2D and 3D for a fun, unique way of creating a short animation.

I wanted to introduce a more modern twist for the Dragon Quest series, similar to Dragon Quest 11. I did that by producing a 3D version of my animation. However, I also wanted to keep the classic PlayStation aesthetic, thus I made a 2D animation that continues off of the 3D portion. All of the characters and most of the objects inside the 2D animation has a pixelated appearance and movement (mouth). I incorporated sounds that I deemed fit for a retro-style video game.

For the 3D portion of the video, I used Maya to model and rig my characters as well as placing materials I made in Photoshop. For the 2D portion, I used After Effects and imported all of the 2D objects I created in Photoshop. To wrap things up, Premiere was used to finalize the video clips and to add background music along with sound effects.
