Today in South Africa the politicised issue of health is proving the basis of imposing new, unconstitutional measures that erase basic human rights.

Human rights could be overridden and written out of existence if new changes to the National Health Act are ratified. You have a chance to voice your opposition and write a powerful letter to defend and affirm freedom. Your email might be the tipping point to avert this attack on citizens, democracy & freedom.

South Africa, for decades was the epicentre of apartheid. It may now become polluted by a permanent, creeping totalitarianism, encouraged by new sweeping powers.

A portrait of SA Health Care in 1990

"Human rights violations, such as detention without charge or trial, assault and torture in police custody, and restriction orders, have had devastating effects on the health of persons experiencing them. These violations have occurred in the context of a deliberate policy of discriminatory health care favoring the white minority over the black majority."

Today's challenge to democracy and human rights:

Recently proposed changes to the Health Act in South Africa "gives the health minister the right to immediately make changes to the regulations without any consultation" including the power to "decide when lockdown should be implemented and when it is to be lifted" and powers that "threatens members of the public with court orders and imprisonment unless they comply and submit to receiving a particular type of treatment"..."patients should not be subjected to medical examinations, admissions, treatment or quarantining without their consent."

"It is not necessary to take the National Disaster Act and make it find expression in the National Health Act. We must not allow a situation where our constitutional rights are undermined in the name of fighting a pandemic." – The Young Nurses Indaba Trade Union (YNITU).

South Africa must not adopt new tyrannical health apartheid rules that the Minister of Health in South Africa (Dr. Joe Phaahla) has proposed. The amendments to the National Health Act Regulations under Government Notice No. 1434 of 15 December 2017 and the International Health Regulations Act 28 of 1974, are an abuse of basic human rights, and are entirely degrading and dehumanising in their reclassification of society into a health caste system.
