In fall 2019, Canadian not-for-profit, Darkspark, will assemble a diverse cross-section of youth, music producers and professional artists who have been personally impacted by gun violence.

THROW DOWN YOUR ARMS will engage this group of youth and use songwriting, recording and video, to tell their stories and tackle this increasingly pervasive issue in a unique way. The goal is to create a call-to-action that places youth’s voices at the center of this conversation, harnessing the power of lived experience, art and multimedia to touch audiences far and wide.

THROW DOWN YOUR ARMS will include a roundtable where American and Canadian youth share their diverse stories on gun violence, from domestic abuse to school shootings to urban youth who live with daily fear of being shot. These stories
will inform a collaboration between participating youth, professional artists and music producers who have also been impacted by gun violence.
Collectively, they will write and record songs that speak to the impact of the issue. The process will be
filmed and a short documentary created alongside the songs and accompanying lyric videos. The resulting multi-media campaign and EP will be released digitally on February 14th, 2020 – the anniversary of the Parkland shooting.

A not-for-profit founded by musicians, Darkspark is a culturally diverse network of recording artists, music producers, educators & filmmakers who harness pop culture as an effective catalyst for social change.
