A quick animation to visualize the Coriolis effect. In this one, two people play catch while both rotate on a turntable or carousel. We observe first from an inertial frame of reference that is attached to the stationary earth, then from a rotating frame of reference attached to the turntable.

Of course, even the inertial "stationary" reference frame of the earth rotates, so the coriolis effect, while negligible in this small scale example, applies to make the ball's path curve.
