This core series demonstration goes over a few important points which will be relevant to most overhead pressing (Vertical Push) movements, especially when standing.

1 - Overarching the lower back can be caused by poor body awareness, tight upper body muscles and/or joint restrictions. These should be addressed before any overhead press is loaded.

You should only work this move lightly and see the movement as a practice until you are mobile enough, in this period extra work should be done in mobility such as doing the "Overhead press Fixer" circuit and using other isolated movements to target the front and side deltoids so the muscles can still develop in this period.

2 - The arms being at 45 degrees to the body are in reference to the scapula plane. In this position, the supraspinatus muscle (the main rotator cuff and shoulder joint stabilizer) and the deltoids are in optimal alignment to work, and the joint of the shoulder has the most space to move with less compression and friction (Sub-Acromial Space).

Presses where the upper arms go behind the head or the arms are drawn further back from the scapula plane should be done cautiously and only with healthy and strong individuals, which adequate mobility - And not with those with any pre existing shoulder or even neck problems.
