This performance shows a duet, trio, and quartet of connected breaths The participant’s synchronized breaths and coordinated movement unite bodies into one. Through our lungs we connect for a single moment- as hot fades to cold, light fades to dark, movement fades to stillness. Fluidity turns rigid. Chaos and chance are solidified into delicate permanence.
Separate breaths work both together and against one another, exposing the tension and beauty of collaboration. The joining bubbles create a point of intersection that is also a barrier. The work is a visual symbol for the chance encounter of social interaction. Like the memory of a long-past conversation, the remaining artifact of the encounter is sterile, cold, and fragile.
