A poetic recollection of a personal and collective memory, the work dissects, decomposes, fragments, distills and then re-creates anew - in a time that beats in repeated rythm, slow and circular - the dream of an ancestral childhood, of nomadic shepherds and tangled bushes of war and raids, and in this magnified gaze, the film wonders about the meaning and the nature of it's own observations.

Canti Neri (Black Songs) comes from the analysis of a private and family archive, property of the authors, who have selected some frames transposing them from S8mm to 16mm.

The original films have been combined in a new way, focusing on details that had escaped from the eye of the operator, on the periphery of the image, extrapolating details, dissolving the flow of action and reiterating it in a dilated time.

The images that thus re-emerge coexist with original texts of filmed poems.

A substantial union, the one between word and image, in the work of the authors, which aims to re-elaborate memory and imagination.

And it is not just a matter of recalling a private memory, but also and above all, a social and collective memory linked to the colonial history of our country: blind attemps at conquest and repression, chronicles of war, failures reiterated and buried in a complex and imponderable reality, distant and profoundly different, emblem of the difficulty of discerning and understanding, where even the most recent ideals of liberation where born, were betrayed and then corrupted.

And yet, finally, a rich memory, which transforms and becomes possibility, redemption, allegorical childhood, immaginative and poetic well.

Rievocazione poetica di una memoria personale e collettiva, canti neri seziona, decompone, frammenta, distilla per poi ri-creare daccapo - in un tempo che batte ripetuto, lento e circolare – il sogno di un’infanzia ancestrale e pastori nomadi e boscaglie intricate e guerre e incursioni, e nell’invasamento del suo guardare, si domanda il senso e la natura del suo stesso osservare.

Canti Neri scaturisce dall’analisi di un archivio privato e familiare, proprietà degli autori, che ne hanno selezionato alcuni fotogrammi traslandoli dal S8mm al 16mm.

Le pellicole originali sono state accostate in maniera nuova, ponendo l’attenzione su particolari sfuggiti all’operatore, soffermandosi sul periferico dell’immagine, estrapolando dei dettagli, dissolvendo lo scorrere delle azioni e reiterandole in secondi molto dilatati.

Le immagini che così riemergono convivono con testi originali di poesie filmate. Un'unione sostanziale, quella tra parola e immagine, nel lavoro degli autori, che mira ad una rielaborazione della memoria e dell’immaginario.

E non si tratta qui solo di richiamare una memoria privata, ma anche e soprattutto una memoria sociale e collettiva legata alla storia coloniale del nostro paese: ciechi tentativi di conquista e repressione, cronache di guerra, fallimenti reiterati e insabbiati in una realtà complessa e imponderabile, lontana e profondamente diversa, emblema della difficoltà di discernere e capire, dove, anche i più recenti ideali di liberazione, sono nati, sono stati traditi e poi corrotti.

Eppure, infine, una memoria ricca, che trasforma e diventa possibilità, redenzione, infanzia allegorica, pozzo immaginifico e poetico.
