It is important to breath with your movement while training. Inhale, loading your body with oxygen while you load the weight. Exhale, releasing the waste as you lift the weight. The parts of the exercise are formally referred to as inhaling during the "eccentric mvmt" & exhaling during the "concentric mvmt." Concentric movements train the muscle through contraction (shorten the muscle) & lifting. Eccentric movements train the same muscle but in the opposite direction (as the muscle lengthens) during the lowering motion.
When you hold your breath or do not breath WITH the movement you may feel lightheaded or even experience a headache. This headache can last for hours after you finish training. Even if you need to move slower during your weight training, make sure you breath effectively. Take the time to breath correctly, loading the muscle with adequate oxygen & nutrients for muscle growth. You will see improved results in your training by making small adjustments in the timing of your breath. Just breath! You got this!
