Before Thoughts:
The statistics trend of the coronavirus directly aligns with my time spend on bed (that includes sleeping, working, eating, and thinking). As I realized that this is unhealthy, I'd like to document every time I go up on bed (that means I'll take a picture when I go down the bed afterwards). I hope the result will make me reflect on the matter of not moving and meeting people.
The point is that every time I'm on bed, it is not that I completely stop moving. I'm still a living being and obviously I'll be moving around in this little space (it is funny how I 'confined' myself into an even smaller space/bed during this self-confinement period). My idea is that no matter how confined we are, we are dynamic creatures and will still find ways to move, to change the situation.
Rule:
Every time I leave the bed, I would take documentation of my bed cover in the form of photograph or 5-second still video.
The documentation view will be front-sided and bird-eye view.
Each documentation should feature the time stamp as well.
The first documentation begins today - 24 March 2020 - when I wake up; and the last documentation will be on 31 March before I go to sleep.
After Thoughts:
On the first day, I'm fully aware of my condition to document my bed cover everytime I go down. The fact that I have to take a video doesn't change my frequency or intention to work on bed. I'm probably also excited to see the change of my bed covers in the beginning of the journal, so it might explain why only the first day has a lot of documentations.
As days past, the frequency of my documentation significantly decreases. I don't feel any pressure to document it, so the documentation is not exactly the reason of this frequency decrease. It is more of my consciousness to my inactivity by being on the bed all the time.
By the time of the last day (31 March), I promised myself to only be on the bed when I truly decide to go to sleep.
This journaling format is ruled by actions that 'habituate' me to remember my times on and off the bed, I'm glad that it actually initiates a new habit, which I intended (yes, it is not yet a fully-developed habit because 7 days are not enough to drill the new action into my unconsciousness). It is the mindset to stay off the bed, to stay active, and to separate work and rest. I have to admit that I still do work on bed before I go to sleep, as work time doesn't seem to have a start and end point during this self-quarantine situation. However, I can see that I'm becoming more productive by being off the bed. I think of other activities to do instead of watching Netflix when I'm bored with my work.
The documentation can be seen as poetic movement of the bed covers, showing an invisible body (me) with its activities that alter the bed cover as time passes. However, personally, it is more of a positive exercise rather than a method to reflect.
