Research and development for Beacons, a participatory arts project that begins as a treasure hunt and ends as a collective light and sound installation on the beach. It is about how we are all connected and need to work together to maintain the beauty and balance of our natural world and our communities, and it uses ancient seagooseberries as messengers to tell this story. The work is being developed by artist Alison Neighbour, technologist Tarim, and composer Emily Peasgood, and is planned to premiere in Folkestone in March 2021.
R&D was supported by Arts Council England, Help Musicians UK, Kent Arts Investment, and Creative Folkestone. With special thanks to the gang at Kent Refugee Action Network for treasure hunt testing, and Touchbase Care and Folkestone Youth Project for map making and local knowledge.
