Ok here is one quick guide,how we usually work in in studio,sometimes just going straight ahead animation,here one small example i made in some of my free time after studio work final animation is not tat perfect still lot of mistakes but just for to get an idea,1st pass always reference sometime even you act and blend both of it ,this was easy reference i got so i can make it quickly,as you see 1st pass putting it on basic timing as you can see there is locator in middle reason is that the center pivot will always give you good control imagine it as bouncing ball :) but some times this will also vary so always so study the motion and try to animate on very limted control and keys as possible, later you can divide your work depending on creature kinda of shot you get,which will always keep changing,then you can divide your work in this way your animation will be always in control too,and then at the last you can do the tail ears rest of remaining polish...:)
