Honoured to be invited by Santee Smith, award winning multidisciplinary artist, to create and explore content for her production Residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and her upcoming work Skén:nen. The goal was to explore the possibilities of interactive projection mapping as a narrative element.
Once we had the initial designs Microsoft's Azure Kinect opened the possibility to extract movement data from the dancers, skeletal tracking and joint rotations. Derivative's Touchdesigner software and the mad skills of Montana Summers performing behind Hologauze fabric allowed us to explore new sensory experiences and incorporate a new layer of storytelling guided by real time movement data. Thanks to KAHA:WI Dance and the Banff Centre's Indigenous Arts and Technical teams, specially Woody MacPhail, who went above and beyond to make it all happen.
