VC documented the Filipino American protests in Los Angeles after President Ferdinand Marcos declared martial law in the Philippines on September 23, 1972. This video shows the protests in front of banks in which Marcos had deposited money stolen from the public coffers and protests against the U.S. government’s support for the Marcos regime. Other images depict community meetings and rallies in support of opposition leader Senator Ninoy Aquino. Casimero Tolentino, an activist who taught Filipino American studies at UCLA, comments on the impact of the Anti-Marcos, Pro-Democracy movement on the Filipino American community. Running time: 3:47
