The Stonewall Riots played a significant role in the beginning of true LGBTQ+ activism and the very beginning of the conversation for equality. Since the events that took place were such a big stepping stone in the movement, I tried to capture the chaotic atmosphere, the beauty, and the legacy through a series of informal sketches as well as remarks made by witnesses and current day symbols. The sketches represent the phases of the initial riots, including the original crowd, the arrests and attacks, the backlash against the police, and the protests.
