A SECRET ARTFORM is an eight and a half minute short film starring SLOKE NBK. This film was shot and edited by Naython Vane. SLOKE provides the archival images to take the viewer back in time. The action follows a diverse group of writers as they paint the Emo's wall in Austin, TX on 10/17/2020. The interview was conducted in SLOKES living room on 10/24/2020. STAFF 161, a pioneer subway writer from NYC who is considered on of the inventors of the graffiti movement, was one of those writers on his first painting trip to Austin. Also featured in the film are Texas writers GNATS, SPIKOE, VIVO, SMETZ and AWEZ, plus NEON from the Bay Area and JIGZ from Los Angeles.The music of DEEJAY HANS MOLEMAN underscores the action with funky beats and wild samples while SLOKE tells the listeners about the the history of the Emo's wall and the backstory of how he founded the NO BOUNDARIES KREW in December of 1994. SLOKE also gives away some historical secrets about the roots and origin of writing in Texas, giving much credit to a NYC writer, AGREE, who relocated to Albuquerque in the 80s and unknowingly set off a chain of events that led to the birth of two state wide writing scenes in Texas and New Mexico when he befriended a young writer in New Mexico named, SAINT. SAINT relocated to Austin a few years after meeting AGREE and became writing partners with SLOKE, who had already been mentored by SKAM(RIP) in piecing, which led to the formation of NBK. Much respect and a big thank you to all the writers involved in this project. Thank you for letting me capture your work which is the culmination of decades of dedication to a movement that most humans view as a nuisance. The level of dedication they have to the writing movement and lifestyle can only be compared to a monk living in solitude to avoid religious persecution. Sneaking around the rules of the establishment to live the life they want not the one that society says they should live, dedicating their entire essence to something most don't understand and don't care to understand. But don't just read about it, watch the film and then go paint a train.
