Song by Teeniest - a duo from New York.

Lyrics:

A Hand to Hold Forever

A hand to hold forever in this world
A hand to hold forever

A simple question: what do you want?
Shouldn't have to answer with excuses and caveats
I pursued everything and I felt no fear
At the end of the line everything is clear
All I really need is

A hand to hold forever in this world
A hand to hold forever

It was unexpected, out of the blue
Didn't fear rejection - you knew what was true
The world was no longer what it seemed to me
Just a simple gesture was everything to me
All I really need is

A hand to hold forever in this world
A hand to hold forever

The end is coming, I'm gonna disappear
Memories are flooding, some I hold so dear
One surpasses everything, stands outside of time
Feeling the warmth of your loving hand in mine.
Oh I think I found it

A hand to hold forever in this world
A hand to hold forever

Holding hands can be an act of love, friendship, solidarity, solace and much more. It's all good. This song is not as corny as the title suggests. Running below the message of love are dark sci-fi undertones that create an unsettling vibe.

SPOILER ALERT! This video contains scenes from the end of the virtual reality game, Lone Echo 2 - this song and music video were inspired by Lone Echo 2. In this outer space adventure, you are a robot named jack who assists Captain Olivia Rhodes. An emotional highlight of the game happens when these two friends hold hands.

Emotional highlight -- in a video game?

Without question.

Aside from incredibly realistic 3-D rendering and movement, excellent writing and voice acting (Troy Baker and Alice Coulthard) really give Jack and Liv vitality and personality. Olivia has a fully-realized human character. Through banter, jokes, and working side by side, she becomes your friend -- this emotional connection is the real surprise in VR.

Of course you know it's all a digital illusion. But the magic of VR happens because the immersive illusion becomes "real.”

The multiple levels of perception, illusion, and meaning in VR are fascinating. By placing you in the position of an AI who is friends with a real person (who is actually digital!), the Lone Echo games raise interesting questions about consciousness, artificial intelligence and human connections.

The Lone Echo series is created by Ready at Dawn studios: readyatdawn.com

Note:

We do not own the images in this video. We see many folks using video footage from this game online, and we're hopeful our usage falls under "fair use" in creating a new artwork. This non-monetized video is meant to convey sincere admiration for the masterwork that is LE2. However, if there are objections to this use of game footage we'll happily take it down!

How this video was made: We started off using screen capture software (like you see with the video game "walkthrough" videos online everywhere) but found that it gave a very clinical, cold look. So instead we went backwards technologically and set up a camera on a tripod in front of the monitor and filmed, which gives a less "perfect" look but one that "breathes" a bit and seems more "cinematic" to our eyes.
