52 films is a learning project and self-challenge to make a short film each week for 52 weeks.
This week;
- Almost halfway! Six months of short films. I can’t believe it! So crazy to think that I’ve done this for half a year. Next week is half way through the challenge. I can’t actually believe it. Where did the time go?
- I’ve been wondering lately if I’ve improved. It’s so frustrating to still not be able to realize the images in my head, and I’m not entirely sure how to get there. Is it simply cinematography and investing in lights? Is it a lack of camera movement? Is it more planning? What can I do to get to the next level? The only answer I have to that question is working with a larger crew. But that’s not realistic given the turnover and resources that I have...... so what do I do? I don’t know. I don’t have an answer
- camera movement is difficult with what I have, so I used my phone this week. Was inspired by Spielberg’s camera blocking. If I did another take I would avoid the French over and get more of my actor’s face (at least in profile) to make sure that there was a little more emotional connection. Glad I got a safety angle to allow me a little wiggle room in the edit. That was also inspired by Spielberg but I’m v happy with it.
- Also focused on making edits (the literal juxtaposition point) more meaningful. Have been focusing on learning basic coverage to the point where I’ve neglected to think about how I’m ISING that coverage. Fun shift of gears inspired by (surprisingly) Mamet.
