This is my first attempt at a walking animation, which I’ve created in Maya. Using the poses I drew previously as a guide, as well as reference footage, I managed to create this; when animating, each pose was 4 frames apart. I feel that the walk has good timing, and the staging is fine, given that I had to move the rig’s starting and ending positions in order to fit the frame. I think that the walk has a very robotic quality to it, likely because of how deliberate every step seems to be, and the way the arms swing seems unnatural. My focus when making this animation was simply to try to get the timing and basic poses of the rig correct, which I feel I’ve done successfully. I initially had trouble with the rig breaking, as when I tried to move the pelvis the controls for the torso and the head would detach from the model of the body. I managed to fix this by fixing the mesh layer. At the end, I chose to present my work to the third years. When commenting on my Maya walk, they praised the bouncy-ness of the walk, although stated that I could add more hip/shoulder movement, and that the last step was a little too sudden. I was also told to make sure the feet wee flopping more, with more movement in the toes and feel when moving/contacting the ground.
