I used video footage and digital animation in Orange daydream 1999. The footage and sound I used are mostly filmed and recorded by myself in Zhengzhou, China, the city I've been living in since birth. The video footage in the piece is the segment of the city that instantly brings me back to childhood, just like the certain kind of smell awakens all the memories associated with it. The animation is done by iPad and Apple pencil. The inspiration for the animation comes from my dreams and psyche. It shows the world from a child's eye. I want to visualize the memory of childhood in this piece, including happiness and sadness. I intuitively edited different elements together in the way that best represents my feeling, without a narrative or a plan. For the audience, all they need to do is to feel it without any analysis, logic, and knowledge.
