Zhanzhuang is the practice of “Force-searching”. In this practice, Yi, the mental intention, directs force, the physical movements, to work in coordination and unification. Zhanzhuang aims to connect body parts into an “organic whole”. The organic whole means all body parts are unified as “one”. Forces generated by body parts are called “scattered” forces. A movement generated by the organic whole is called “whole-body’ movement. The force generated by whole-body movement is called “unified” force. As the first step of Yiquan, Zhanzhuang essentially brings scattered forces into the “unified” force. It’s a process of “Force-unifying”.
