Dae-su Oh is man with a drinking problem who suddenly disappears outside a phone booth on a rainy day. His best friend had attended the police station to collect him after his arrest for being drunk and disorderly. Nobody knows where he has disappeared to and in his absence his wife is murdered and his child given to foster parents. Dae-su Oh is charged with the murder in his absence but what the police don’t know is that he is being held prisoner by a criminal gang. His release fifteen years later sets him on a quest to find out exactly why he was imprisoned in the first place much to the delight of his watching former jailer.

Oldboy (Hangul: 올드보이; RR: Oldeuboi; MR: Oldŭboi) is a 2003 South Korean mystery thriller neo-noir film directed by Park Chan-wook. It is based on the Japanese manga of the same name written by Nobuaki Minegishi and Garon Tsuchiya. Oldboy is the second installment of The Vengeance Trilogy, preceded by Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and followed by Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.
