Sam began his involvement with the WAAFL in 2003 as a committee member and player for the West Coast Amateur Football Club. He has held various positions on the committee including President. He also won the West Coast AFC 2006 'SPINE' award for Best Clubman.
Sam was a club delegate for the WAAFL Amateur Status working party and was also involved with working with the council and local community groups to support the $1.1million redevelopment of the City Beach Oval Pavilion. Birmingham holds a law and economics degree from the University of Western Australia and is a self-employed business owner and University lecturer.
