Originally, the end point of this film is the inspiration for it. At this very place I had witnessed a Northern Beaches Council vehicle pull up. Then as I watched, a man with a pump pack proceeded to spray some kind of weed spray on the weeds around the waterway. At the time I assumed it was likely a poison along the lines of Roundup, the weedkiller produced by Bayer known to have carcinogenic properties, as I know it was being used by other councils in NSW.
Whilst searching to find what weedkillers the council was using, I came across their weed spraying program for sporting fields, many of which are adjacent to waterways of many varieties eg lakes, harbours, creeks, etc.
The audio of this film contains the list, and some of the properties, of the weedkillers used in the above mentioned spraying program. Whilst the visuals contain marine life filmed in the Northern Beaches marine parks, followed by the waterways feeding the ocean back to the point I had originally witnessed the weed spraying.
As much as the councils will insist otherwise, poisons will make their way into our waterways from their spraying programs, wildlife and sealife will be poisoned to varying degrees, and so will we.
