BRANDLAB – the Berlin-based agency for brand innovation – won the internationally renowned iF DESIGN AWARD 2020 with the project VoloPort for customer Volocopter in collaboration with Skyports in the discipline "Architecture", category "Public".
“VoloPort” is the name of the ground infrastructure for Volocopter’s electric air taxis that will enable passenger boarding and vehicle take off and landing in megacities worldwide. BRANDLAB developed and realized a first prototype design that was presented together with clients Volocopter and Skyports at ITS in October 2019 in Singapore.
The infrastructure is designed to be adaptable to a variety of site conditions and multiple vertical take-off and landings. Along with all technical and performance requirements that are essential to supporting flight operations, the whole customer journey – from check-in to boarding, departure and landing – was designed in from the beginning to create a trusted and safe environment as well as an effortless passenger experience.
As a major contribution to future electric urban air mobility, the VoloPort was able to convince the 78-member independent international jury of experts. The number of applicants was large: The jurors had to award projects from among 7,298 submissions from 56 countries.
