On 02/18/2020 Odane Wellington was arrested for multiple felony charges including attempted murder of a Law Enforcement Officer for events that occurred after the crash.

Shortly after 2 AM Davie Police officer Burns was driving in his marked police vehicle northbound on SR7 when he observes the defendant driving southbound on SR7. The offenders vehicle was driving with the headlights off and at a very high rate of speed. As the offenders vehicle passes, Officer Burns makes a U-turn and begins to drive southbound. The offenders vehicle makes an eastbound turn onto Griffin road at such high speed that you can see sparks coming from the front wheel brakes. The offender had a red turn arrow as northbound traffic had the right-of-way with a green light. A head on collision occurred at the intersection. A few seconds later, Officer Burns’ police vehicle arrives at the intersection of the crash.

The Davie Police Department is handling the crash portion of this investigation. That investigation is currently active and we are anticipating additional charges related to the crash forthcoming.
