Please know that a resolution is NOT an ordinance and it is not legislation. It is an opinion issued by the town governing body / town council on a timely issue. A resolution is a strategy for sending a timely message from a town council to the governor, a BOE or anyone else you want to direct it to. The approved resolution is posted on your town website and the administrator sends it to all the parties listed as recipients in the resolution language.

Here are the steps following their example:

-Find out when your next town council meeting is and plan to attend.
-Write your resolution. Download an editable copy to customize the resolution for your town: click.convertkit-mail2.com/o8ulklvn7liqh2w0d9sv/qvh8h7h8rv8p45tl/aHR0cDovL2VsaWxhY2VudGVyLmNvbS9yZXNvdXJjZXMvTWVkaWNhbEZyZWVkb20vUmVzb2x1dGlvbi5kb2M=
-Each district is unique. Find an ally in the town council. Some towns have a Board of Education liaise. It is useful to find out who that is and build a relationship. Use your ally to ask for best steps if your meeting is still being held in Zoom.
-During public comment, let the town council know that this resolution is what your town supports. Submit your resolution. Bring enough copies of your resolution for you and the council members.
-Request that the town issue a strong statement re: masks as well as an opinion about curriculum (sex ed, the Diversity and Equity curriculum, etc).
-When analyzing your town, you may opt to wait until enough towns have adopted this resolution as a precedent. Be mindful about your strategy.
