18-year-old Lola has left home after numerous confrontations with her father and lives in a shelter for at-risk youth. After learning about her mother’s sudden passing, she returns home broken hearted for the funeral, only to be kicked out again by her transphobic father. However, the mother’s last wish forces them back together again: She wanted her ashes to be spread on the beach where she spent her summers as a child, and Lola and her father embark on a road trip full of confrontations over a family history of pain, traumas and bitterness.
Despite all this, we get an emotional and sensitive portrait of two souls fighting to understand each other, to forgive and to be forgiven.
For her portrayal as Lola, Mya Bollaers became the first trans actor to receive a nomination and win Most Promising Female Actor at Belgium’s Magritte Awards.
