I made a one year anniversary card for the date of adoption when our senior cat, Sassy came to live with us.
Positive takeaways- it was fun to learn the basics of circuitry and the first run of setting one up in a two dimensional setting went well. I also enjoyed thinking through and planning the mechanics of the pop up element. I tried to have negative space in the cat figure (fur pattern on her back and her big eyes) that would allow for the lights to come through.
Deltas: the mechanics of my original pop up prototype worked well. However, the heavier card stock provided challenges for consistency. This is something I’d trouble shoot with more time. My original plan to have the lights inside of the figure did not work out so I ended up having to shortcut on my circuit with what little conductive tape I had left.
Overall- I am not super happy with the final product (though I am very happy with Sassy). But working through the hiccups, even if the results didn’t match my original idea, was a good reminder of process. I hope to find the time to make another of these soon. Very fun.
