“Los Pajaritos Del Rio Lempa” (Gli uccellini del fiume Lempa) diretto da Simone Fabbri è undocumentario prodotto da 7 Mega Hertz, un progetto indipendente che cerca di raccontare storie di resistenza attraverso il muralismo e il reportage.

The first story we want to share with you is the story of five former Salvadoran guerrillas.
During a spring the street artists Bastardilla and Ericailcane, the Italian video-maker Alice Bettolo and the Colombian photographer Victor Galeano went to El Salvador and visited four men and a woman who share a dramatic and glorious experience. These Salvadorans fought in the Salvadoran civil war, that torn apart the country from 1980 to 1992, as members of the FMLN (Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front), the revolutionary movement that opposed the regime and its military supported by the United States of America. Now they all live in the region called Bajo Lempa, where the Lempa river flows into the Pacific Ocean.
In the ‘70s, in El Salvador injustices had reached an unbearable level, with a small oligarchy keeping all the privileges forcing the vast majority of Salvadorans to a life of misery. The popular movements that were born in that decade to ask a political change were met with a terrible repression leaving armed struggle as the only available option.
Jesús, Simón, Corona, Numa and Julio told Ericailcane and Bastardilla their story, about how harsh peasants’ life was before the war when virtually all the land was in the hands of a few landlords. They spoke about a life of poverty, fear and violence. They explained the artists how they felt being young with apparently no other option rather than an existence of deprivation and suffering. They explained their feelings when they decided to take arms in their hands and described the atrocities committed by the military to the population during the long 12 years of fight. They talked about their fears, their hopes and the courage of thousands of men and women who, with no means, at some point in their lives decided to stand up against an enemy that looked invincible. They also explained how friendship, solidarity and fraternity among the guerrillas and between the guerrilla and the civil population were their most powerful weapons.
Ericailcane and Bastardilla listened to these stories; they thought that their new friends’ lives deserved to be celebrated and they did it painting murals on their houses inspired by their incredible experiences. Now Jesus’, Simon’s, Corona’s, Numa’s and Julio’s houses tell stories for any passer-by who may want to stop, reflect and think how life can be harsh and extraordinary at the same time.

However, our goal is not limited to telling stories. Or goal is also supporting economically their protagonists and their families. To this end, Ericailcane and Bastardilla are producing limited edition screen prints, whose sale is intended to give our contribution so that our friends’ sons and daughters to have a better education; our aim is that they can have the opportunity to reach the University and that they will finally be able to reach their goals, doing something meaningful for their future families and their communities as a whole. Bastardilla and Ericailcane renounced to any form of compensation; this is why our commitment is to donate the 50% of our profits to this end. The remaining part will help us to share new stories with you and to support more people in the future. We are deeply grateful to all the people who will be our company in this journey to reach this beautiful destination.
