In this video, I show you how to make the edible moss for the "peep" shaped bunny cookie we are decorating for the April Easter Cookie Nite happening April 10th! Two techniques done with the same ingredients! Let's get started:
For this recipe you'll need -
1)Extra Sugar Cookie dough
2)Green Food Color
For second technique
1/8th tsp water and a zip lock
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prep two balls of sugar cookie dough, roughly 2-3 tbsp in each mound, by placing them on a parchment paper. Mix desired amount of green food color (1-2 drops) into one ball of dough until well incorporated; doesn't have to be perfect. Flatten both balls into discs on the parchment.
Place parchment on a baking tray and bake the two cookies until they are brown around the edges and cooked throughout. It took me about ten minutes to bake mine.
Once they're out of the oven, let them cook on the baking tray or a wire rack.
Using a blender or even a microplane zester, ground the green cookie into a fine sand. Place in a zip lock and freeze for up to 3 weeks.
For the plain sugar cookie, blend it aswell. Place in a ziplock bag and mix with 1-2 drops of green food color and 1/8th tsp of water until well combined and the proper color is achieved. Try to avoid it being too soggy and clumpy by using your judgement with how much food color and water to use. Freeze for up to 3 weeks.
For class, we'll need about 1/4 cup of this edible moss to cover one of our cookies!
See you for class! Happy baking!
