HOT STEAM is an annual video art showcase that aims to marry topics in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) through communal listening, watching, and learning. For the first time in HOT STEAM history, a five-part episodic series is brought to the web, debuting September 2020 for HOT STEAM 03. Every Tuesday at 7pm hotsteamfest.net will release a new 30 minute episode featuring an international selection of contemporary video artworks that investigate the intricate relationships between human behavior, the natural world, and the shifting realities of everyday life. In an effort to increase accessibility and engage all ages, videos are all 5 minutes or less.

Episode 01, THESE UNCERTAIN TIMES, is a meditation on loss, transition, and the passage of time. While some works take on these topics in a contemplative and self-aware nature, others submit to the frenetic anxiety that comes with past and future reflection. In unity, these videos open the door to familiar feelings of absence, the vortex-like sensation of memory, and the questioning of one’s relationship with self—and perhaps even the greater universe.
