ERDC provided critical support to the National Science Foundation in the design, construction and certification of a runway built of compacted deep snow at McMurdo Station in Antarctica. The first-ever deep snow runway for wheeled aircraft, which took 16 continuous months to complete, will support more than 100 intercontinental flights annually, as well as sorties, to move supplies.
