Get inspired by the next generation of the profession! Join Mark Roddy, FAIA, AIACV Board Director and CSUS Instructor, along with four recent CSUS graduates, who will share their compelling work designed for the 4th year capstone Interior Architecture Studio at CSU Sacramento. The final semester before graduation the students tackled a complicated issue, much needed for our cities and our planet. Using the AIA's Framework for Design Excellence, they designed an adaptive re-use and net-zero office building in downtown Sacramento. After an introduction on the studio pedagogy, each alumni will present their project and discuss the sustainable strategies proposed.

The 4th year interior architecture design studio was inspired by the annual ACSA COTE Top Ten for Students Competition. The focus of this competition is to challenge students to develop projects that use a thoroughly integrated approach to architecture, natural systems, and technology to provide architectural solutions that protect and enhance the environment. The goal of each student project was to apply the competition guidelines to an Adaptive Reuse, Net Zero project. Each project must attain carbon-neutral operation through creative and innovative integration of design strategies such as daylighting, passive heating and cooling, materials, water, energy generation, and other sustainable systems. The students are required to communicate how they accomplished this goal by delineating how their specific proposal followed the AIA Framework for Design Excellence.
