Greening Melbourne is an inquiry project that focuses the children’s imaginings of creating a more sustainable city. ESD plays a central role in the project, engaging the children in learning about the importance of human and nature relationships and action taking in response to the protection of the environment. The aim of the inquiry project is to challenge children to re-conceptualise the city environment to include green spaces, green buildings, eco transport and green ways of being. The children are encouraged to engage in learning inside and outside of the classroom, making connection with local natural and urban environments. The inquiry project forms an exhibition 'Children's Voices for Greening Melbourne', where children’s voices, in the form of 2D and 3D artworks (including written and vocal messages), are collated to spread awareness of the importance of a green and healthy Melbourne city and to recognise the importance of child agency and voice in matters of environmental matters of concern.
