NOTE About the Day of Service: The Bishop O'Dowd High School VAR Women's Soccer Team undertook a wonderful service-learning project for MLKJ Day. They came in and absolutely transformed the back and front yards at Serenity House in West Oakland, a 'sister to sister' non-profit which helps women survivors of addiction, violence, homelessness, and incarceration. The team, coach and managers + all hustled and bustled and worked hard.
For the project, they cleaned, cleared, planted, mulched, lit, painted (mural), built (patio), and created a new backyard gathering space. They also cleaned, cleared, trimmed, planted, mulched and beautified the front yard. Serenity House’s motto is “Sister to Sister” -- and this was truly a demonstration of sisterhood!
