This work is part of a wider exhibition Tenuous Oasis that explored the naturalisation of technology through a museum like format- exploring each artists interpretation through the worlds/ digital reality's they'd created. Due to Covid-19 the exhibition was cancelled and we were unable to show our works. My video works were from my fictional reality of Alt-Space and the statement used in the exhibition explains the context of my work:
Alt-Space is a virtual reality birthed out of the techno-capitalist society of the 21st century. Where man and machine live together under the plight of their simulated lives. Through the progression of AI and advanced technologies, many alt-space citizens became insignificant and left without purpose, turning to the hedonistic lifestyle of targeted advertisements and sexual deviancies, to relieve the pain of their melancholic existence. Many centuries after we are left with the broken dreams of this once great digital society. As historians look back at their archival material of advertisements and TV to question, where did they all go?
After the great massacre of the control alt delete, it was thought that all alt-spacians were wiped from the server. But it’s still rumoured that some survived and integrated into the wider multiverse, even living among us today.
